There is no mechanical linkage exists between the accelerator pedal and the engine throttle. The signal from the pedal position sensor is proportional to the accelerator pedal position and tells the engine control system how much to open or close the engine throttle. This way is possible remotely control the throttle valve and provide accurate voltage output through the resistive pattern.
